About me

THE BLOGGER, The maker, the mess

There is a short bio below

Corina Koolen

Blogger and maker

The woman behind the site

My name is Corina. After working many jobs, finishing a PhD, publishing a book (in Dutch), doing a textile art course, getting divorced, starting a new career as a technical writer and moving twice, I found it was time to unplug for a year. Or half unplug. I kept my job one half of the week. The other half I am unwinding, while I re-figure out how to do life.

As an undiagnosed ADHD-like person, I have great troubles keeping in touch with the people I love, keeping organized, staying focused, or the opposite: to become unfocused when I really need to. So this year, I am going to find out how to be the person I want to be, using my chaotic but inspired mind – instead of fighting against it as I have most of my life.

In my Year of Happy Chaos, I want to focus on my wellbeing, get myself on the track that makes me happy and more calm. I want to do this in a way that suits my wonderful, messy, weird and fun head.

So first off, I am going to build routines and track my progress. Second, I am going to pick tangible small goals to get multiple senses of accomplishment during the year. I will pick one project each month, so that I have smaller goals to reach. It can be something to do with my textile art, but it can also be something completely different. As long as I really feel like doing it.

I’m hoping you are going to follow along on this journey with me!

Wellbeing

My mental and physical wellbeing are not that great, in part because of covid. It is time to step up and find a routine that works for me and will keep on working.

Monthly projects

Every month, I pick a brand new project to focus on. That can be a textile art project, like a new piece, but it doesn't have to be. September is a no-build SUV car camping build!

Textile art

The things I make. Usually mixed media: a combo of (machine) knitting and paper collage. I also include performance and interactivity in my works.
